 An Introduction

Welcome to the annual Brandshank Electronic Music Blog awards.

So here's the thing - we work exclusively with the music industry which inevitably leads to pretty fierce appetite to discovering new music.

The soundtrack to the office here transcends fresh underground electronic music ranging from minimal house to indie dance. A touch of trance is not uncommon, the odd dash of pop all supplemented by the sub-genres that loosely define “electronica”.

Without this wild mash up of beats we wouldn’t be able to keep our ear to the ground for emerging technologies relevant to musicians, and wouldn’t be able to communicate effectively with the artists themselves.

To put it mildly, we love music and that’s why we custom build web presences exclusively for the industry.

Our Ranking Factors

Twitter Reach
Number of followers a blog has ammassed and kept engaged.

Facebook Reach
Number of likes a blog has ammassed and kept engaged.

RSS Subscribers
The loyal regulars, how many has a blog reached out to.

Freshness
Average number of posts per week.

MozRank
A metric, measuring site strength and authority from SEOMoz.

Brandshank BlogScore

Through many an iPod switch around the office and the all too familiar question, “where did you find this track/album/mix?” we realised that the answer nearly always included the word “blog”.

With this in mind, we decided to set about giving something back... compiling and honouring the music blogs that helped carve and strengthen our musical taste.  At Brandshank, we custom build websites for bands, artists and the music industry.

It was a relatively simple task shortlisting and happily citing the blogs and sites that we regularly visit. In order to really sort the wheat from the chaff though and to add another layer to the process rather than just compiling an arbitrary list we set about developing a mini algorithm utilising our knowledge of digital marketing for bands labels and the music industry. Thus, the Brandshank BlogScore was born!

The BlogScore combines the ranking factors above into an (albeit very basic) consistent strength score. That is the figure you'll see just below the rank itself. So without further ado, here is the run-down!

We would love for you to spread the word about this poll. You can find sharing mechanisms along the left (drag a bit for it to fade in) or please drop us your thoughts in the comments section!  Click the blog screenshot to go to the site directly.
